On November 24 2022, CCB handed over the petition #SaveTheBalticPorpoise to the EU Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius, in Helsinki, Finland.
The petition, started in April this year, reached more than 119,000 signatures and calls for concrete and urgent conservation measures to protect the Baltic Proper harbour porpoise – the only whale in the Baltic Sea.
A press event - organized in collaboration with the CCB MO Finnish Association for Nature Conservation - was organized prior to the meeting at the Scandic Hotel Grand Marina (11:00-12:00 am), with two experts:
- Nils Höglund, CCB Fisheries Policy Officer
- Ida Carlén, Senior Policy Advisor Oceans, Swedish Society for Nature Conservation
