PROTECT BALTIC - WP 7 internal coordination meetings
The project PROTECT BALTIC is here to ensure sufficient protection and restoration in the Baltic Sea's marine environment. The project aims to secure biodiversity, maintain ecosystem function, produce ecosystems services, and enable sustainable use.

Description

The fifth WP 7 Legislation internal coordination session (IC PROTECT WP7Leg 5-2024) took place on Wednesday 27 March 2024, 11.00-17.00 CET, in Uppsala, Sweden. CCB organised the workshop, being part of the PROTECT BALTIC project.

CCB Participant in the meeting
- Estefania Cortez, Project Manager/Legal Expert
- Nils Höglund, CCB Policy Officer
- Andrea Cervantes, CCB Biodiversity Officer

Agenda
The agenda of the session was:
1. Introduction in-person of the whole WP7 team.
2. HELCOM VASAB comments and recommendations.
3. Important concepts and frameworks that we should address.
4. Review of deliverable T7.1 (Existing international legal frameworks).
5. Review of deliverable T7.2 (Country profiles and knowledge sharing).
6. September 2024 general meeting and next steps.

Outcomes of the meeting
- The Session then briefly commented on the outcomes of the Baltic Stakeholder Conference 2024 and the input received from the participants.
- The Session commenced by discussing the latent connections with the other WPs, recognizing the crucial role of WP 6 Governance, regarding terminology and for ecosystem services purposes in WP 7 deliverables (use or value).
- The Session acknowledges the possible contingencies with overlapping terminology, especially regarding legal frameworks and policies. Given these circumstances, the Session concludes that it is imperative to work on an internal terminology, which will be then shared and complement the published glossary for the PROTECT BALTIC project.
- The Session brainstorm on the main topics to be developed in our first 2 deliverables/reports.

The participants list is an internal document that can be requested upon request to CCB Secretariat.
