4th EU Blue Parks Community Workshop
The EU Blue Parks Community provides an opportunity to exchange knowledge and good practices, enhance governance, foster stakeholder involvement, explore funding opportunities, and improve the management of marine protected areas.

Description

The EU Blue Parks Community is hosting its 4th workshop on 6 March 2025 in Brussels, as part of the European Ocean Days. This will mark the second in-person gathering of this growing community, providing a unique opportunity for members to engage directly, exchange insights, and strengthen their involvement.

The workshop themed ‘Strict protection in European seas: how it helps people and nature’ will feature contributions and discussions on the ecological and socio-economic benefits of strict marine protection. It aims to foster dialogue and provide valuable insights to support the advancement of the EU's target to designate 10% of marine areas under strict protection.

This in-person event is the 4th workshop in the series of EU Blue Parks Community workshops. More than 90 organisations active on marine protection are already members in this growing Community. The workshop will focus on strict protection in Marine Protected Areas with the aim to share tools, strategies, and governance models to implement strict protection. The workshop will also explore how strict protection in Marine Protected Areas can strengthen conservation while supporting sustainable livelihoods.
