Baltic Sea Farmer of the Year Award 2020

Opis

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Baltic Sea Farmer of the Year Award, organized by WWF Baltic Ecoregion Programme, is a competition which is selecting winners from eleven countries within the Baltic Sea catchment. Applications are received from farmers who are practising both organic and conventional farming, as well as many different types of agriculture. The national winners, chosen by juries in each country, receive a prize of 1,000 Euros. From these national winners, an international jury selects a regional winner who receives a grand prize of 10,000 Euros.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, WWF decided to cancel the regional event this year. CCB Member Organization, Center for Environmental Solutions, managed to organize the national competition in Belarus on the 11th of November 2020, for the third year in a row.

This event wanted to promote environmental practices in agriculture and support farmers who seek to minimize the impact on the environment. The jury selected the farms most careful with nature and preventing pollution of water resources in the Baltic basin.

"For us, the national stages of the competition are an important link in celebrating our 30th anniversary. Moreover, the issues of environmental protection in agriculture are very important for the Baltic Sea. At the moment, the revision of the strategic document of environmental policy in the Baltic region is underway. Support for organic agriculture was included in the block of issues that are most likely to find their place in the new action plan."
- said Mikhail Durkin, CCB Executive Secretary.

The first place has been awarded to the Fortuna-Agro farm with the family of Galina and Sergei Matus, engaged in the cultivation of organic vegetables.
