What is HELCOM?
The Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission – also known as the Helsinki Commission (HELCOM) – is an intergovernmental organization (IGO) and a regional sea convention in the Baltic Sea area. HELCOM was established about four decades ago to protect the marine environment of the Baltic Sea from all sources of pollution through intergovernmental cooperation. In line with HELCOM policy on COVID-19, Intersessional Meeting of the Maritime Working Group (HELCOM MARITIME 19A-2020) was held as an on-line meeting on 14-15 March 2020.
