HELCOM 50 years
Official meetings of all HELCOM Working and Experts Groups and other subsidiary bodies are postponed due to the HELCOM strategic pause until further notice, however, informal consultation sessions, without Russian participation, are organized and hosted by a Contracting Party.
The informal consultation sessions process and discuss documents and provide guidance and recommendations as to how to progress work.

Opis

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Convention and HELCOM, Latvia, currently holding the Chairmanship of HELCOM, hosted a celebration on 25 April 2024 in Riga. The event was preceded by a Ministerial Meeting of the Contracting Parties on the morning of the same day.

The guests, including representatives of the HELCOM Contracting Parties, observers and other friends of HELCOM past and present, enjoyed a special programme reflecting on the achievements of the first 50 years of HELCOM while looking forward to future challenges. The event was by invitation only.

- captivating tales from eyewitnesses of HELCOM's incredible 50-year journey so far and thought-provoking discussions with youth panellists on the future of the Baltic Sea and finding harmony between humans and nature.
- the event brought together distinguished speakers, panellists and approximately 150 participants from across and beyond the Baltic Sea region (the participants' list is unavailable for this event).
