The Blue Manifesto - Launch event
Organised by Surfrider Foundation Europe & BirdLife Europe and Central Asia. Brought to you by the 6 Blue NGOs organising Ocean Week

Opis

This high-level event in the European Parliament, Brussels brought together newly elected MEPs, key decision-makers, and ocean advocates to spotlight the critical next steps for policymakers to endorse in the next EU mandate.

As part of the "An Ocean of Change" initiative led by six Blue NGOs; Seas At Risk, ClientEarth, Oceana, Surfrider Foundation Europe, Birdlife Europe and Central Asia, and WWF, the Blue Manifesto launch will advocate for an ambitious Ocean Deal that places the ocean at the heart of EU decision-making in the new legislative period.

The launch of this roadmap was a cornerstone in shaping a sustainable future for our seas.

Outcomes
- With this event during the Ocean Week in Brussels (30 September- 4 October), CCB and other organisations called on the newly elected EU institutions to take a series of bold measures to stop the EU’s ocean and coastlines from being pushed to the brink, including launching an Ocean Fund and proposing new legislation to ban destructive activities at sea.

- With the preparation of the European Oceans Pact and a new upcoming Fisheries and Oceans Commissioner, this event was an opportunities for NGOs and relevant stakeholder to set their demands and expectations for future EU marine protection policy until 2030.

- the Blue Manifesto set out an ambitious vision: an Ocean Deal that places the health of the ocean at the heart of EU decision-making during this critical legislative period. With 2030 fast approaching, the guest speakers supported the undeniable fact that the next few years will be crucial in ensuring Europe steps up as a global leader in marine conservation.

- With effective implementation of EU law being a repeating theme from the day, it is now time for political leaders to make decisions that will revive the ocean’s health and secure the future of the communities that depend on it.
