2024-2025
SSSforUkraine project brings together several actors in an effort to improve the water quality within the run-off area of the Wisla River, in Western Ukraine.
This project - funded by the Swedish Institute and run in collaboration with partners from Ukraine, Poland and Sweden, will develop proposals for sustainable sewage systems in the rural Lviv region, in Ukraine, which currently lacks wastewater solutions in whole or in part. The aim is to ultimately reduce the load on the river Wisla and the Baltic Sea. The project will result in a report that provides examples of sewage solutions for rural villages in Ukraine, but also Poland and Sweden.
A
kick-off workshop was held in Uppsala in December 2024 to discuss the current sewage systems in rural Ukraine, criteria for selecting solutions, and examples of nature-based technologies from Poland and Sweden. Two more digital workshops will take place in 2025 to finalize criteria, select project locations, and identify suitable techniques. The project is also exploring funding options for further implementation.
We are carrying out this project in cooperation with Lviv City Institute, Zero Waste Lviv, Polish Ecological Club, and Water Revival System (WRS).
What is the main goal of the Project?
The project aims to develop sustainable sewage solutions for rural Lviv and creating a guide for similar areas in Ukraine, Poland, and Sweden.
How the project is implemented?
The project includes workshops with project partners to assess current systems, define criteria for solutions, and explore nature-based technologies from Poland and Sweden.
