Public hearing “State of play in the implementation of the Common Fisheries Policy and future perspectives”.

Description

On 17 March 2022, the Committee on Fisheries held a public hearing “State of play in the implementation of the Common Fisheries Policy and future perspectives”.

This hearing was organised to inform the PECH own-initiative report on the implementation of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). This policy develops within the frame of the so-called "CFP basic regulation" adopted in 2013, and which sets the foundations for some new policy directions, notably for the exploitation of stocks based on Maximum Sustainable Yield, the progressive end of discards, and the possibility for regionalised approaches.
In a first part, this hearing focused on the objectives and the tools used for the sustainable exploitation of marine biological resources and the conservation of fish stocks. The second part of the hearing was dedicated to issues related to the governance in fisheries management.
