The project PROTECT BALTIC is here to ensure sufficient protection and restoration in the Baltic Sea's marine environment. The project aims to secure biodiversity, maintain ecosystem function, produce ecosystems services, and enable sustainable use.
Description
While official meetings of all HELCOM Working and Expert Groups and other subsidiary bodies are postponed due to the HELCOM strategic pause until further notice, informal consultation sessions, without Russian participation, can be organized and hosted by a Contracting Party.
The Network for Marine Protected Area Management (IC MPA MANET 2-2024) was hosted in Lahemaa, Estonia on 16-19 September 2024.

Outcomes of the meeting
- The workshop was enriching and important for CCB since it gathered representatives from most parts of the Baltic Sea Region.
- CCB retrieved crucial information for the continuous work with the management plans in relation to the project PROTECT BALTIC.
- The country presentations, analysis of multi-management plans and review of key governance elements were some of the highlights, alongside the exchange of contact information with all the managers.
