Description

While official meetings and other events of all HELCOM Working and Expert Groups and other subsidiary bodies are postponed due to the HELCOM strategic pause until further notice, informal consultation sessions, without Russian participation, can be organized and hosted by a Contracting Party.

The 1st Informal Consultation Workshop on improving the assessment of the impact of underwater noise on noise-sensitive species (IC WS NOISE IMPACT 1-2024) was held in Helsinki, Finland, on 18 September 2024.

The session started at 9:00 (timezone: Helsinki / Riga) and ended at 17:00 on the same day.

Outcomes of the meeting
This workshop co-organised by CCB/BUND and the HELCOM Secretariat set the scene for past and current work on assessing the impact of underwater noise (impulsive, continuous and other noise sources) on noise-sensitive species. It also allowed discussions on concrete suggestions of a way forward for the Baltic Sea assessment.
