What is HELCOM? The Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission – also known as the Helsinki Commission (HELCOM) – is an intergovernmental organization (IGO) and a regional sea convention in the Baltic Sea area. HELCOM was established about four decades ago to protect the marine environment of the Baltic Sea from all sources of pollution through intergovernmental cooperation. Description

The Sixth Meeting of the HELCOM Group on Sustainable Agricultural Practices (AGRI 6-2018) was held at the premises of the Ministry of Agriculture, in Riga, Latvia.
The Meeting was opened on Tuesday, 15 May, at 9 and terminated on Wednesday, 16 May 2018, at 14.
The key themes of the Meeting were the organization of the work on regional nutrient recycling strategy and the revision of the part 2 of Annex III of the Helsinki Convention. The Meeting also discussed revision of HELCOM Recommendation 24/3, development of guidelines/recommendation for the use of national manure
standards and other themes. The group was also invited to evaluate the results achieved in the past working periods and discuss prolongation of the group mandate as well as possible modifications in the group’s Terms of Reference.

CCB arranged a back-to-back seminar on Common Agricultural Policy after 2020 in the context of the Baltic Sea Protection, on 14 May 2018. Background information for the seminar includes:

  • Materials of the "CAP 2020. Towards sustainable agriculture" Conference on 1-2 September 2017 in Tallinn, Estonia, including presentations and an open letter to the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council, Agriculture and Rural Development Committee of the European Parliament, European Commission

  • Early draft of the Regulation of the EU Parliament and the Council establishing rules on on support plans to be drawn up by Member States under the Common agricultural policy (CAP support plans)
