Description
Blue Mission BANOS organised its 1st Mission Arena between 14-16 November in Gothenburg, Sweden. The event aimed to encourage, engage, and support various stakeholders from the Baltic and North Sea regions to create a carbon-neutral and circular blue economy by 2030, in alignment with the EU Mission Ocean's objectives.
The 1st Mission Arena served as a platform for interactive sessions, workshops, pitching events, demonstrations, and study visits. The event acted as a laboratory to pave the way for innovative solutions, showcase local, regional, and national approaches to the transition to a circular, carbon-neutral blue economy in the Baltic and North Sea, and provide concrete pathways to Mission Ocean's success in the region. The 1st Mission Arena was primarily focused on the local and regional communities of Germany (Baltic | Schleswig-Holstein), Denmark (East), and Sweden (South).
As part of the 10 addressed themes, on the third day (16 November from 11:00-12:30 CET) WIN-BIG organised the workshop “How to close the gender gap in the blue economy?”
Presenters included Helena Vieira, WIN-BIG's project coordinator from the University of Aveiro; Stephen Hynes, leader of WIN-BIG's WP Mapping and Intelligence Gathering from Galway University; Susana Bastón from the FLORES project; and a representative from the UNITED project.
This workshop aimed to: - Discuss the knowledge gaps regarding women's contributions to the Blue Economy (BuE) - Present how WIN-BIG aims to fill that gap and how each of you could help us do that - Hear storytelling interventions from women’s experiences in different sectors of the blue economy - Collect everyone’s input on the best way to increase the participation and representation of women across EU geographies and BuE sectors and work towards a gender-balanced Blue Economy
