Accelerating the Baltic Sea Action Plan implementation

DESCRIPTION

It is clear from the 3rd HELCOM holistic assessment (HOLAS 3) that the state of the Baltic Sea is not improving. Instead, pressures are increasing from climate change and biodiversity degradation caused by further anthropogenic activities and their cumulative impacts on the marine environment.

Therefore, we urge Governments of the BSR countries to take coordinated and sustained efforts in order to achieve the agreed targets within the set time frames.

In this document, we:

- outline which measures need to be prioritized and facilitated to achieve BSAP targets by 2030 and to make sure that the Baltic Sea ecosystem is healthy and resilient;
- formulate priority ACTIONS under each segment of the BSAP by outlining associated CHALLENGES and SOLUTIONS;
- highlight the priority ACTIONS, whilst emphasizing that all ACTIONS of the BSAP need to be implemented to achieve a Good Environmental Status of the Baltic Sea.
