This paper outlines the CCB position on grey seals.
Coalition Clean Baltic is against the culling of seals as a response to an ecosystem-related problem, created by mismanagement of the fishery resource and environmental degradation. Seals are a natural part of the ecosystem and an important top predator – in a healthy ecosystem with sustainably managed fish populations, both marine mammals and fisheries can coexist. We oppose actions that reduce the population of Baltic seals and strongly support actions for their restitution.
The position outlines:
- The development of the grey seals population in the Baltic Sea
- The issues between human activities and the grey seal population in the Baltic Sea
- CCB´s use of the term culling
- Regional differences
- CCB´s requests
