4th Informal Consultation Session of the Sea-Based Pressures Working Group (IC WG SEA-BASED PRESSURES 4-2024)
Official meetings of all HELCOM Working and Experts Groups and other subsidiary bodies are postponed due to the HELCOM strategic pause until further notice, however, informal consultation sessions, without Russian participation, are organized and hosted by a Contracting Party.
The informal consultation sessions process and discuss documents and provide guidance and recommendations as to how to progress work.

Beskrivning

While official meetings of all HELCOM Working and Expert Groups and other subsidiary bodies are postponed due to the HELCOM strategic pause until further notice, informal consultation sessions, without Russian participation, can be organized and hosted by a Contracting Party.

The 4th Informal Consultation Session of the Sea-Based Pressures Working Group (IC WG SEA-BASED PRESSURES 4-2024) and was online from 4 to 6 November 2024.

Outcomes of the meeting
- The Session took note that CCB is organizing a workshop on implementation of BSAP actions related to recreational craft and the development of a “Clean Boating Guide”, to be held either on 5 or 10 December 2024.

- The Session welcomed the offer by CCB to lead the implementation of action RS1, supported by Finland and Sweden.

- The Session took note of the information on the Red Noise Baltship project (2023-2024), led by CCB, and the QuietWaters project application for an EU Life project (document 4-3).

- The Session took note that within the Red Noise project CCB and FishSec will organize an online webinar on ”Impacts of continuous underwater noise on fish in the Baltic Sea” on 19 November 2024 and that the final conference of the project will be held on the first week of December 2024.

- The Session discussed and planned the way forward for revising HELCOM Recommendation 17/3. In this regard, the Session welcomed the offer by CCB to lead the revision, and to submit a draft revised Recommendation to the next session of WG Sea-based pressures and the HELCOM-VASAB MSP WG in spring 2025. The Session encouraged Contracting Parties to contribute to the work, involving also experts on the Espoo Convention, as appropriate.

- The Session welcomed the offer by CCB to liaise with the EC on this matter and, if possible, to share further updates on the work with the Group.

- The Session noted that CCB and some Contracting Parties have concerns with regard to the environmental consequences as a result of surveys for CCS and CCS itself in the Baltic Sea. The Session noted that CCB plans to submit a document on this matter to IC HOD 6-2024.
