Race To Save the Baltic Campaign 2013

CCB • October 3, 2013

CCB together with the NGOs  FISH  and  OCEANA  with support from Zennstrom Philantropies now launch a campaign targeting the decision-makers in the Baltic Sea region. One of the campaign aims is to gather public support for proper implementation of the policies we already have.

Our message is: We have agreed on the targets. Now we call on you to take action! We can’t wait any longer; it is time to fulfill the HELCOM commitments to restore the health of the Baltic Sea.

To show our commitment, we will bike around the Baltic Sea this summer, visiting 9 countries and riding around 3 500 km in 3 months. Collecting signatures from the public and relevant stakeholders, we intend to hand over a letter to the Ministers of Environment when they meet in Copenhagen on 3 October asking them to move forward now!

A new report from the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) and its member organisations reveals widespread PFAS contamination in wild fish across Europe, with many samples far exceeding proposed new safety limits. These so-called "forever chemicals" pose a growing threat to public health and aquatic ecosystems - yet EU Member States are pushing to delay action on needed pollution controls until 2039.
