HELCOM - 13. Treffen der Gruppe für nachhaltige landwirtschaftliche Praktiken

The meeting was hosted by Cetaqua (Water Technology Centre) at the Agbar Water Museum, Cornellà de Llobregat, Barcelona, Spain on January 29th and 30th 2020.

The meeting aimed to bring together practitioners working in the field of waste-water treatment and to engage other relevant stakeholders, including policy makers, from the European institutions, national and local authorities, civil society and the private sector.

Ewa Leś and Elena Gretchina attended the meeting on behalf of CCB presenting results of the operational grant (Biannual Strategic Plan 2018-2019) "Engage, encourage, and educate - to help saving the sea". The main outcomes were related to some CCB´s activities: microplastics and pharmaceutical in the water.
Research has assessed removal efficiency of 24 active pharmaceutical substances in 5 constructed wetlands in Sweden with a removal efficiency of over 80%. Constructed wetlands and stormwater ponds are also an efficient barrier for microplastics - showing a reduction of 90-99% of particles 20-300μm.
