What is ASCOBANS? ASCOBANS was concluded in 1991 as the Agreement on the Conservation of Small Cetaceans of the Baltic and North Seas (ASCOBANS) under the auspices of the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS or Bonn Convention) and entered into force in 1994. To know more about it.

Beschreibung

The 20th Meeting of the ASCOBANS Jastarnia Group took place in Zandvoort from 13 to 15 March 2024.

There were annual meetings, the Steering Group for the ASCOBANS Recovery Plan for Baltic Harbour Porpoises (Jastarnia Plan) and the Conservation Plan for the Harbour Porpoise Population in the Western Baltic, the Belt Sea and the Kattegat (Western Baltic Conservation Plan) - the Jastarnia Group - reviewed progress under the action plans, learned about complementary initiatives, and moved implementation forward.

Outcomes of the meeting:
CCB's Biodiversity Officer collected information on countries' progress on the Actions of the Jastarnia Plan as well as relevant knowledge on recent scientific studies and the upcoming SAMBAH II project. CCB brought questions to some countries regarding methods of avoidance and mitigation of impacts as well as progress on the implementation of actions for the protection of the Baltic Harbour porpoise.
